I'm really glad someone else cared about Billy's passing enough to mention him in our blogosphere. I read all of the press reports yesterday and couldn't believe that most of them did not include "Will It Go Round in Circles" as one of his signature songs (it was conspicuously absent in many releases).
Many of us who were just really discovering the rock and roll scene at that time knew how significantly tallented this guy was - and of course we know he played with the best - the Beatles and the Stones. It is is keyboard and funk that helps "Get Back" be the be the roof-top extravaganza it was as the Beatles "last live performance".
Unfortunately I think this in another example where the press is just plain "lazy". I never considered him the "fifth Beatle". He was a talented musician all to himself who made a mark on some historic recordings and tours - and was a great artist outright himself - he frankly helped bring keyboard to rock - you can hear all through the rest of the 70's.
Watch me try and fail to express my opinion in 25 words or less. I'm married with three sons and live in Texas where we have two seasons: Hot and Not Hot.

Billy was the man.
What a talented and prolific man. I hope he is finally at peace.
